Shortly after graduating from Byng High School, the assistant superintendent approached me with a job offer as their social media coordinator. Coming in as the social media coordinator, I wanted to refine the school district’s brand, streamline their social media presence and increase overall engagement.

The previous logo was pulled from an unknown online source. It was a pixelated PNG file with no ability to resize without becoming pixelated. The logo didn’t utilize the school’s colors and failed to have a tie to the Byng community.

I utilized Adobe Illustrator to transform the new logo into a vector. To modernize the logo, I wanted to distance the brand from skeuomorphism and shift to a flattened design.

After redesigning the mascot, I began the process of creating a new district-wide logo that would be utilized on all social media collateral. My goals for the new logo were to include the district’s forgotten slogan, “The School of Choice,” and emulate the school’s rich traditions in both academics and athletics.
